"Research Presentations to Contribute to the SDGs" in Chikaho
Application Guideline
1. Eligibility and Number of Participants
Eligibility: All doctoral students enrolled in Hokkaido University
It is strongly recommended that students selected for the Ambitious Doctoral Fellowship (SDGs) participate in this program unless you have a special reason not to. The students will have their participation counted as part of this year's achievements and will be highly evaluated during next year's continuation review.
※In case of numerous applicants, we may conduct a first-round screening due to display space limitations. (First-round screening results are scheduled to be announced in early November (subject to change))"
※Only posters that have passed the first-round screening will be included in the booklet distributed at the Science Festa.
※Before applying, please inform your academic supervisor of your intention to apply for this presentation session and obtain their permission regarding the planned method of data disclosure.
2. Exhibition Venue (Tentative)
Sapporo Ekimae-dori Underground Community Space (commonly known as "Chikaho")

※The exhibition venue will be determined according to the number of applicants and announced as soon as the venue is confirmed.
3. Details - Schedule
The applicants shall submit the following 1 and 2
- One page of poster
- A short video summarizing your own research.
The poster will be displayed at the venue. The applicant should stand beside their posters to explain them to visitors. However, please arrange your participation times so they do not interfere with your research activities or other commitments. Videos will be posted on the dedicated website, and QR codes linking to them will be displayed at the venue and in the guidebook.

Schedule of the exhibition days (Tentative)
December 20(Sat.), and December 21 (Sun.), 10:00-17:00 on both days
※Visitors can vote for their preferred one, and the voting schedule is the same dates and times described above.
※The announcement of voting results and the awards ceremony will be held at a later date. (Award recipients are requested to attend the awards ceremony and assist with the creation of award articles.)
For EXEX Doctoral Fellowship students:
Participation in this project will grant 1 point toward the co-creation education program, which is one of the Compulsory Elective Programs required to take for the EXEX Doctoral Fellowship. (After participation, please enter the information into the portfolio system by yourself and apply for Recognition of Completion of the Compulsory Elective Program)
If you wish to earn points, you must participate for a minimum of 5 hours on both days combined.
On the day of the Science Festa, a dedicated registration desk for EXEX students will be set up. Please be sure to notify the staff member in charge when arriving and departing at the venue(Details such as the registration location will be announced at a later date.)
4. Evaluation and Awarding
The winners of each award will be determined through the voting of visitors who attended the venue during the exhibition period, as well as the voting of several judges from both inside and outside the university.
Awards selected by the judges from both inside and outside the university
- Awards : Grand Prize, Excellence Award, SDGs Award
- Evaluation Criteria: Evaluate items ① to ③ in 1) below and the four SDG-related perspectives on a 5-point scale.
Awards selected by the visitors
- Awards : SDGs Award
- Evaluation Criteria: Each visitor votes for one option from the perspective of the four SDG-related categories.
※The judging for the SDGs Award will be conducted by converting the scores from both internal and external judges and the visitor to 1:1 ratio in the total score.
1) The judging for the “Grand Prize” and “Excellence Award” will be based on a comprehensive evaluation of: ① Quality and originality of the research content, ② Poster design, ③ Clarity of the poster's content, plus ④ points awarded for the “SDGs Award.”
The “Grand Prize” and “Excellence Awards” will be selected by overall evaluation from the perspective of ①quality and originality of the research ②design of the poster ③understandability of the poster contents, and ④evaluation points for the “SDGs Awards”.
The “SDGs Awards” will be selected based solely on the following four aspects.
- “Uniqueness and progressiveness” …… Are there creative ideas and new values?
- “Social impact” …… Can expect having impact and ripple effects on society?
- “Feasibility” …… Are there sufficient experiences, plans and enthusiasm to realize the idea?
- “Interdisciplinary Collaboration” …… Is it created through interdisciplinary collaboration?
2) Winners will receive a certificate and a supplementary prize (cash award). The supplementary prize (cash award) is as follows:
- Grand Prize: 100,000 yen
- Excellence Award: 50,000 yen
- SDGs Award: 50,000 yen
5. Important Notes for Presentations
- During the presentation, you will explain using only the one poster you created.
- On the two days of the presentation event, please attend the exhibition venue as much as possible to explain the content of your poster presentation to visitors. Be present next to your poster to answer questions from visitors.
6. How to Apply

Students wishing to present must obtain permission from their academic advisor and apply as follows. Students wishing to participate in the “Research Presentations to Contribute to the SDGs” must submit a poster and video data and agree to publication on the relevant website (under preparation).

Note: Submitting data alone does not apply to participate in the presentation session“Research Presentations to Contribute to the SDGs” (Please note that regardless of participation in the presentation session, the submitted data will be published on the relevant website).
